We overnight at the Sani Pass Hotel, a quaint hotel nestled into the beautiful Sani valley.

The day is spent sightseeing and enjoying the scenery while driving/cycling (depending on your fitness level) to one of the highest points in Southern Africa and a world heritage site (Sani Pass). The cycle itself is 12 km long and takes about 2 hours 30 minutes to ascend. It is the 3rd highest road pass in the world.

Guests are encouraged to take their time and there is a 4*4 vehicle on hand at all times. For non-cyclists, the pass presents a fantastic trekking challenge.

    Food and Dining

After a healthy lunch at the Sani Top Chalets, home to South Africa's highest pub, we have the option of a ride along the escarpment on Basothu Ponies.

This will take most of the afternoon as it's worth stopping periodically to take in the views.

    Food and Dining

That night we enjoy a traditional South African braai (included) around an open fire and swap stories of our adventures in the mountains.

  • Day 2 - South Africa

    Mountain Biking

The views as we travel along the cliffs overlooking KZN are spectacular. We commence our decent down Sani Pass on foot or by Mountain bike at about 12:00pm.

We arrive at the world heritage site of St lucia early in the evening and settle in.

  • Day 3 - Hluhluwe

The next morning after breakfast we head for the St Lucia Estuary, a world heritage site. During the morning we take to kayaks and explore Catalina bay on the Estuary system. Get up close and personal with a family of hippos and learn about the unique St Lucia eco-system. Options include a famous mud bath! Great fun.

    River or Barge Cruise

During the afternoon we take an afternoon cruise on St Lucia estuary, where a range of wildlife including hippos and crocs and many bird species are common.

On arrival, we check into 'Hilltop camp', situated at the top of a hill, with panoramic views of the reserve.

We make our way out into the bush for our first game drive in search of the various game species that abound in this area. Your guide is highly experienced and has a thorough knowledge of the animal and bird species in the area. We enjoy a packed lunch at one of the 'hides' in the reserve.
