Cooking Classes 6 Days in Barcelona
Cooking Classes 6 Days in Barcelona

The program combines hands-on cooking lessons with visits and tastings at carefully selected markets and vineyards, plus, you’ll discover simple local hideaways and top Barcelona restaurants. We share with our guests an interest in authenticity and sustainability, and we always find seasonal delicacies, festivals, or customs to learn about. Workshops vary each day, exploring Catalan food and wine in depth. You’ll learn techniques favored by local chefs and create delicious three-course meals. But you’ll also spend time outside the kitchen touring markets and tasting at specialty shops. This city’s shopkeepers fanatically curate superb collections of everything from cava, chocolates, and dried fruits to cheeses, ibérico hams, and salt cod. There’s plenty of tradition to be absorbed, but you’ll also enjoy what Barcelona’s most innovative chefs are doing. Our menus are always enjoyed with wine, and participants will learn about the excellent and still somewhat undiscovered wines produced in Spain. You’ll taste with local experts and also make a day trip to vineyards to see how cava is made and explore the impressive reds being produced by a younger generation of winemakers who are having great success with their biodynamic wines. The program is limited to 14 participants. The course begins on Sunday evening and ends the following Friday morning.

A food experience, fitness vacation & Pilates retreat at a luxury villa in Spain
A food experience, fitness vacation & Pilates retreat at a luxury villa in Spain

Here in the coastal Empordà region of Catalonia, fresh ingredients come from terraced olive groves, rice paddies, kitchen gardens, and the sea. It’s a beautiful place to taste, cook, and exercise. We’ve also built in time for you to relax in the luxury of a gorgeous country villa, explore the historic city of Girona, or visit the beach towns of the Costa Brava. The program is limited to 18 participants. The course begins with a Pilates class, a cava tasting, and a celebratory dinner on Monday night and ends after breakfast at the villa the following Saturday—May 26-31, 2008. The course fee of $3,450 covers double occupancy accommodations, daily classes, activities, tastings and meals as outlined above, including selected wines paired with our meals (not cocktails or other beverages), and transportation on our excursion to the winery and coast. You will need a rental car (or we can help you arrange for a driver) to get to and from the villa retreat location, and we think you’ll appreciate having your own transportation for exploring the region during your free time. Participants who wish to participate in daily fitness activities must be in good physical condition, though no prior Pilates experience is required.

Cooking in Catalonia
Cooking in Catalonia

The program combines hands-on cooking lessons with visits to markets, artisans’ workshops, and restaurants. We share with our guests an interest in authenticity and sustainability, and we always find seasonal delicacies, festivals, or customs to learn about. Each day offers a different experience in beautiful settings that are still a bit off the beaten path. Classes begin at an 18th century farmhouse in the Garrotxa, where the hill towns are known for their cheeses and cured meats. Here, guests cook at an open hearth, using local produce, game, and herbs, with our farmhouse host, Inés Puigdevall. A trip to her sister Fina’s masía rounds out your understanding of this cuisine; Fina runs the Michelin-starred yet still obsessively locally-oriented Les Cols restaurant. The course continues in the coastal Empordà, where fresh ingredients come from terraced olive groves, rice paddies, and the sea. Your instructor here is chef Viçens Fajardo, whose kitchen and cuisine combine tradition with modern elegance. Wine tastings with sommelier Monica Ferré are a treat, as she loves to show off Catalonia’s range of styles from sparkling cavas to the rich reds of the Priorat. The program is limited to 14 participants. The course begins with a Garrotxa farmhouse dinner on Monday night and ends after breakfast in the Empordà the following Saturday. The course fee of $3,250 includes accommodations throughout: in a rustic casa rural farmhouse and in a luxurious country villa hotel. It covers daily classes and tastings, visits to markets and with local artisans, three lunches and three dinners, always paired with wines. It does not include transportation – you will need a rental car, or we can help you arrange for a driver. We think you’ll appreciate having your own transportation for exploring the region during your free time.

An expedition style adventure, a minimal assistance motor rally (with ANY kind of vehicle) that takes you through mostly unknown yet tumultuous regions you may have only heard about on the world news. Starting from Budapest, Hungary, this epic journey leads you through the Balkans and through Turkey to Georgia and Armenia. More exciting than going to a museum, the route takes you straight into the heart of the former war (or conflict) zones of Bosnia, Kosovo, Kurdistan and Karabah. This is not tourism. This is a discovery, a revelation, and an adventure of a lifetime.
