Everest Sherpa Country Trek
Everest Sherpa Country Trek

Everest offers an enduring experience of natural beauty, geological magnificence and profound cross-cultural discovery. This trek follows much of the same route as the early Everest climbing expeditions, but in a spirit of understanding and ecological awareness rather than conquest and takes you deep into the Khumbu area, home of the Sherpa people. Journeys encourages you to immerse yourself in the spirit and sanctity of this area as your Sherpa staff help you to understand their culture by inviting you into their homes, facilitate conversations with lamas, local farmers and national park officials. We believe that this trek is one of the most exceptional and enlightening things you can do in your life.

This trek is a unique cross-cultural experience that is both an educational adventure and a moderate physical challenge, sure to delight your whole family! Journeys' objective is to make a very exotic and adventurous trip accessible and enjoyable for people of all ages. Then, during your eight days of hiking and camping, experienced Sherpas will guide you through the Annapurna region of central Nepal. After the trek, you can enjoy jungle elephant safaris and whitewater rafting, or extensions to other destinations in Asia can be easily arranged. Savoring South Africa
Savoring South Africa

South Africa is an amazing amalgam of beautiful little places, as well as famous sites like Kruger National Park, Cape Town, and the Wine and Garden Routes. We will visit these well-known locations, but the real essence of our trip will be all the little towns, small reserves, scenic back roads, and native villages we have included. Unlike most South Africa tours, we will stay in smaller, distinctive hotels offering coziness, hospitality, and proximity to interesting parks and cultural features. Getting to know the people of South Africa is an important dimension of the experience. While we have a clear itinerary for the 18 days of travel, you will have flexibility in choosing your own meals, restaurants, and optional activities. Breakfast is the only meal included on most days, as there is an abundance of local dining opportunities. Will Weber will offer leadership for specific activities, and our South African guide will provide overall interpretation and insight throughout the trip. The trip starts in Johannesburg, heads to Swaziland, and then follows a sweeping arc southward to Cape Town, where you may choose to join Will for an extension to Robben Island, or explore on your own for a few more days. Consider arriving a day early for a tour of Soweto.

Great Primate Tracking Expedition
Great Primate Tracking Expedition

This is quite simply the most comprehensive mountain gorilla tracking expedition. Our focus is very specific: track and spend as much time as possible with the great apes of Rwanda and Uganda in their natural habitat. We will be visiting three separate gorilla habitats where, with a bit of effort, we have a very high likelihood of finding families of this largest primate. We can also expect to find chimpanzees and numerous species of other primates, as well as many species of birds, mammals and reptiles. Visitation with the Mountain Gorillas is strictly limited to one small group of humans per family per day. Demand for these permits far exceeds availability so advance reservations are imperative. We will be staying in the best available lodges and camps. While primates are the theme and object of our quest, we will also be visiting superb natural ecosystems with a spectacular complement of rare and beautiful birds, mammals and reptiles. We will be alert to all aspects of our environment, including villages and communities along the way. We will be accompanied by exceptional local guides. This will be a great trip to learn about Rwanda and Uganda’s distinctive wildlife and people. The founding Director, Will Weber, who has been traveling to Africa since 1980 will accompany the trip.

Gorillas in the Virungas & Bwindi
Gorillas in the Virungas & Bwindi

This safari will take you to three incredible gorilla parks – Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in Rwanda, and Nkuringo and Bwindi in Uganda. It offers an opportunity to track gorillas several times, twice in PNV and once in Bwindi. Seeing some of the remaining 700 mountain gorillas in their different habitats is a fantastic experience, with each park offering its unique attractions. PNV has four habituated gorilla families living in the afro-montane forests on the southern slopes of the Virungas volcanoes. Nkuringo, on the northern slopes, is often thought to be the prettiest part of the mountain and has one habituated family, which now spends virtually all year in the park, contrary to its previous behavior. In Bwindi, the three habituated families live in the thicker tropical forests and tracking is more challenging. In addition to gorilla tracking, each park offers a number of other activities. **One gorilla permit, in PNV, is included in the land cost of this trip. Additional gorilla permits are $500 per permit. All gorilla permits are subject to availability at the time of booking.**
