South Africa offers many wonderful self drive opportunities. Driving in South Africa is easy as the roads are modern, well signed posted, in the main, with a variety of scenic attractions. Explore the glorious city of Johannesburg, Swaziland, Garden Route, Cape Town and world-famous Kruger National Park in this trip.

This route is most enjoyable if combined with another self-drive itinerary. It takes you through Swaziland and Zululand to Durban. Read descriptions of our other Round Trips for ideas of the many things to do in the area. One traditional route is through Swaziland, the small independent kingdom surrounded by South Africa, but other highlights of this journey are the national parks and cultural villages in Zululand. A most rewarding area to see is the St. Lucia lakes near Hluhluwe.

This self-drive, using PREMIER accommodation, incorporates all of the highlights of KwaZulu Natal - an enjoyable mixture of discovery and gourmet delights amidst breathtaking scenery. Its ideally suited to the South African winter and spring months and can be adapted to include Luxury accommodation as well.

This is a self drive,however we can modify to a private or escorted/part self drive. If you want to see whales, the timing of this route is important. The southern right whales arrive towards the end of June, and stay till October, with a few stragglers hanging around till early November. The humpback whales usually hang around between April and October, although they have been known to stay a bit longer. Of course, you can see whales and dolphins at many other places along the coast, but these spots are the most consistent and user-friendly.

South Africa self drive packages could be for short duration ie like from Cape town through the Garden Route which is a popular self drive route, or done in the opposite direction ie from Port Elizabeth through Plettenberg Bay, Knysna, Oudtschoorn, down to Hermanus, during the whale season, and on to Cape town.
