TRIP DESCRIPTION

My husband and I went on a quick get-a-way to Newport, Rhode Island this winter and we loved it! We were a bit skeptical about the weather and were not positive we weren't just throwing the weekend, and the money, down the drain -- but that was certainly not the case. There's plenty to do in Newport even in the winter. We loved taking the tour of the historic and enormous mansions, and had delicious, romantic meals. We were there during St. Patty's Day - and boy do they put on a good parade! I'd recommend Newport for the long weekend to anyone who is within a 3-4 hour driving distance - even in the winter!

I forgot to add in where we stayed - which was one of the highlights of the trip! We stayed at the Marshall Slocum Guest House. It was a hcarming bed and breakfast with beautifully decorated rooms and welcoming hosts. I highly recommend it! http://www.marshallslocuminn.com/
