"Great place to live"
Everything you need is in Kailua town. If you want big box stores, it is an easy drive to town (as long as it isn't during morning or afternoon rush hours). The windward side of the island is the most beautiful part of the island. The beach is one of the country's top rated beaches with windsurfing and kiteboarding. People are friendly and it is a safe community. Kailua is mostly single family homes and there is one area twhre most of the town homes and condominiums are located.
Winters range from the low of 65 at night (sometimes on rare occassions, it gets down to the upper 50's) and the highs of around 81 during the day. Summers range from a low of 73 at night to the high of 88 during the day.
Castle Medical Center is in Kailua with many other medical services a short distance away (12-15 miles) in Honolulu town.
The housing cost is high and the lot sizes are not that big (5,000-7,000 sq ft).
Oahu has a fantastic public transportation system and you can get anywhere you want on the island on the public system. A rail system is currently being planned as well.
I would recommend it as a place to retire if you can afford the housing costs.
