General Information about Reston
Reston is an internationally known planned community whose goal was to revolutionize post-World War II concepts of land use and residential/corporate development in American suburbia.[3] Reston is an unincorporated census-designated place located in western Fairfax County, Virginia in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. As of the latest unofficial estimates, Reston has a population of 60,353.[4] This would make it the most populous place in Fairfax County. Although it is not a city and does not have a traditional central business district, the Reston Town Center is becoming a focal point or "downtown" for business and transportation connections within the community, with several high-rise office buildings and condos and apartments, restaurants, a cinema, a hotel, and shops. Some municipal, government-like services are provided by a nonprofit corporation, Reston Association.

Bhampbarc (currently lives here; has lived here for 5-10 years):
"Great place to relax and enjoy"
Reston is a good stable community with activities and environment for all ages, orientations, religions, socio economics, occupations
. There is retirement housing, apartments and a downtown for young singles, a singles group for old singles, bicycle clubs, pools, tennis courts, trails for walkers, art galleries, concerts, restaurants and shopping galore.
During the summer and fall, there are festivals almost every weekend. Lots of activities for kidsand young families. Lots of activities for older people. Colleges and Universtities nearby for intellectual stimulation, Reston is 40 minutes from Washington D.C. by metro and 20 minutes by auto. During the winter, museum and other programs are available. The weather is rarely bad enough to be homebound either in summer or winter.
There are loads of senior clubs, chorales, religious groups (of all faiths) atheist/ agnostic groups.
I moved here from a bedroom community when my husband died and i have not regretted it once.
michael (lived here for Under 5 years but moved):
"Town With No Soul"
The town is like an episode of The Twilight Zone. Every square foot of this town is impeccably landscaped but it is inhabited by robots. Pretentious unfriendly robots. No one ever smiled at me or said hello- not 1 time in 2 years. This town is for you if you are a type 'A' social climber who prefers to collect acquaintances rather than have real friends. If you have a pure bread dog because it never once occurred to you to look at the dogs in a shelter, Reston may be your style. I doubt mix breed dogs are even allowed in this town. You know what else isn't allowed in Reston: live music. Musicians just attract lthe wrong element I guess. If your wife is a bony ex cheerleader who drives your kids around in a Hummer while you take your Mercedes to your overpaid government job, Reston is your style.
