General Information about Otis

Otis is an unincorporated community located in the northernmost portion of Lincoln County, Oregon, United States on Oregon Route 18. It is believed that this community was named for major-general Elwell Stephen Otis (1838-1909), who was the one-time military governor of the Philippines.
The post office was established on April 24, 1900 with the current name. Currently Otis, located about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) east of the junction of U.S. Route 101 along Oregon Route 18, consists of the Otis Cafe (a former tavern), the post office, a gas station with a mini-mart, a corn dog stand, a drive through espresso stand and an all-purpose building. There are no houses in Otis but there are about 1500 homes in the surrounding hills, served by the post office. The Salmon River flows close by.
