General Information about Hunt
Hunt is an unincorporated town in western Kerr County, Texas. It is located in the heart of the Texas hill country (the rugged limestone hills that separate the coastal plain from the Edwards Plateau). The settlement was originally named Japonica; it was later changed to Hunt when Alva Joy purchased land in the area from Bob Hunt and established a US Post Office on the site. Hunt sits at the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Guadalupe River. The area around Hunt is home to many fine summer camps each with its own rich history. These camps include Camp Waldemar for girls, Camp Stewart for boys, Camp La Junta for boys, Camp Rio Vista for boys, Camp Honey Creek for girls, Camp Sierra Vista for girls, Camp Mystic for girls, Camp Heart of the Hills for girls, and Camp Flaming Arrow for both boys and girls. Two of the most popular attractions in the Hunt area, besides swimming in the Guadalupe, are Crider's Rodeo on the South Fork west of Hunt (Saturday nights in the summer) and the recreation of Stonehenge replica that was built on the North Fork north of Hunt. Restaurants are the Hunt Store (burgers) and Elaine's Table (fine dining). Hunt also has a few residential areas where the homes are on 5 to 50 acre plots. Canyon Springs and River Bend Ranch are two of these.
