"Bright light of NYC - Exciting city!"

I have lived in New York for six years now, and consider to be one of the most exciting cities in the world. Whilst it has its negatives such as the cold weather and "hustle and bustle", I think the pure energy of the city makes you feel energized.

It's true that the city is quite expensive, especially for housing, but besides your apartment you can definitely live pretty cheaply. There are lots of relatively cheap (but excellent restaurants) and you can always take advnatage of discounts that various institutions offer throughout the year. For example, the Half-Tix booth in Times Square can get you great discounts off theater tickets.

Another great bonus of NYC is the proximity of everything, and the public transportation that is available. I have never driven a car while I have lived here because the trains and buses are just so efficient and easy to use.

"New York is not just the "city". Long Island is wonderful as well as upstate New York and other surrounding areas."

Nothing beats New York as far as I'm concerned. I was born and raised there and moved out to California in 1983. I'm considering moving back - to Long Island maybe to one of the active adult communities on Long Island. I know, I'll be giving up this glorious weather - but that's not everything in life and given that I'm retired and don't have to work I don't have to worry abou the weather in New York. the communities I'm looking into on Long Island take care of shoveling the snow.

"Greatest City on Earth"

I'm a typical New Yorker - and I KNOW that this is the best city on Earth! I raised my family here and loved all the cultural opportunities it afforded them. Now that I'm considering the next stage of life, retirement, I couldn't imagine a better place to do it. I'm still a bit concerned that I'll be a little old lady walking the streets of New York eventually -- but at least I'll be surrounded by 6 million people and will never be lonely! Public transportation makes getting around easy, and I imagine the older I get the more I'll use buses rather than the subway. I am looking forward to aging with the city that never sleeps! The quiet life is for vacation only!
