General Information about Knoxville

Founded in 1786, Knoxville is the third-largest city in the state of Tennessee, behind Memphis and Nashville, and is the county seat of Knox County[5]. It is also the principal city of the "Knoxville Metropolitan Area" which is included in the "Knoxville-Sevierville-La Follette Combined Statistical Area". As of the 2000 United States Census, Knoxville had a total population of 173,890 with a metro population of 655,400.
Of Tennessee's four major cities, Knoxville is second oldest to Nashville, which was founded in 1779. After Tennessee's admission into the Union in 1796, Knoxville was the state's first capital, in which capacity it served until 1819, when the capital was moved to Murfreesboro, prior to Nashville receiving the designation. The city was named in honor of the first Secretary of War, Henry Knox.

"Knoxville-Best Kept Secrets"

Small enough to be easy to get around but large enough to have a major university, ballet, opera, ice hockey team, Pat Summitt and the Lady Vols not to mention Bruce Pearl and Lane Kiffen. Knoxville has so many advantages. Taxes, property and income are lower than most states. Housing is truly affordable whether you want something grand or a modest condo. Nearby are lakes and mountains for hiking, fishing and all types of recreation. The people are friendly and the climate is moderate. The last blizzard was in 1993 and we rarely reach 100 degrees in the summer. Downtown Knoxville has morphed into a fun and busy place with festivals, a great Farmer's Market and a sidewalk cafe with authentic French crepes
