A recently retired friend swapped his New York house for a smaller house in Florida. He swapped with a family who was being transferred to NY and needed the large home for their family. He was able to buy at a lower price and keep the difference. (You both take out mortgages for the agreed-upon-prices, so the houses can be in any price range)

I want to relocate from Chicago to Hilton Head and would like to hear from other boomers who had success swapping homes. Also, do the houses need to be priced the same?
