"Is Florida in summer too hot to handle?"
Replies
A lot of natives move to the NC mountains for July-August. It takes 2-3 years to acclimate to the summers and some people never do.
I lived in Florida in the 70's and couldn't wait to move back to the North.
Yes, the winters are great but the heat and humidity in the summer (which lasts for 5 months) is just too much for me. If you have any type of breathing problem, stay away from Florida.
I grew up in Florida and lived there for 15 years. The summers are oppresive no matter where you are in the state. I lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 12 years, and Panama City Beach for 3 yrs. Both places were disgustingly hot from June to October. The winters are awesome, but you pay the price with the summers. I would love to relocate, but have asthma, and could not handle the heat. We are thinking about N. Georgia or N.W. North Carolina. Let us all know where you decide to retire.
I have lived in Florida for 8 years. Before that, I lived in Texas for 10 years and Virginia Beach for almost 25 years. Texas was by far the hottest, with ave. temps reaching the high 90s and low 100's on a regular basis. Florida generally averages the low 90's in the summer. Va is not much cooler than Fl. The best part is that summer is only 3 months like most areas. After that, FL by far, has the ideal climate. Since most places get pretty hot in the summer I would definately say, hands down, Fl. weather is the best.
