Howard Cadwell created Northeast Passage Financial Advisors to be professional, unbiased and accessible: fee-only, with depth for those who have complex finances, but with straightforward access to advice for those who just need a checkup or short-term guidance.

Howard is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®), and a Registered Investment Advisor in New Hampshire. As an Accredited Investment Fiduciary® (AIF®), he has received special training in the requirements of managing investments for retirement plans, trusts and charitable endowments.

Before developing Northeast Passage, Howard was an executive at two Fortune 500 insurance and benefits companies. Earlier, Howard coached physicians on their practice operations and personal finances as CEO of a practice management company, and also developed various private placement investments in health care startups. He is a graduate of Dartmouth College (BA 1975), University of Minnesota (MHA 1978), and the College of Financial Planning (2006).

Howard is the managing trustee of his town's and school district's trust and capital reserve funds. His outside interests also include volunteering to help landowners finance and create conservation easements. Howard observes a connection between the individual and the community that is peculiarly strong in New Hampshire, and he finds a personal finance aspect even here: "It's somehow very typical of New Hampshire that you can come up with local conservation financing arrangements that, all at once, protect natural resources, moderate the rise in taxes, help a growing community balance its land uses, and help landowners pay for their retirement! I wouldn't have believed it before coming back here a dozen years ago. Yes, you have to get things done locally, and you depend on volunteers in running our smaller towns, but if you're patient and persistent, you can often do things in New Hampshire that just might not work out quite so well anywhere else."

Compensation is Fee-Only, meaning that there are no product sales or third party compensation to bias our advice.

Most clients begin with a "Financial Fitness Review". Get the answers you want in a cost-effective package: 3 questions or issues, a 2-3 hour workshop, plus phone follow-up, all for $750. We also review your taxes and do a 'checkup' on your progress toward financial independence; or for retirees, their retirement finances. This isn't a comprehensive plan, but can serve as a second opinion, financial tune-up, or a way to obtain advice on a limited set of issues such as retirement or investments.

Clients who wish to receive ongoing financial planning and investment support receive our continuing Integrated Financial Planning or "Open Retainer" service. It's all about results: progress toward financial independence or retirement security and enjoyment. Get the different aspects of your finances working in harmony -- taxes, investments, insurance, estate planning, goal-setting, retirement planning, savings or retirement distributions, and more. We help you build and implement your plan, one manageable piece at a time, and can prepare your taxes, too. It's like having a personal trainer to reach your financial goals. The 'open' retainer means you can call for advice any time, though your fee is fixed.
