John attended the University of Delaware, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. He was originally trained by his father in the institutional bond business. He earned two distinguished designations, Certified Investment Management Consultant and Wealth Management Specialist(TM) (WMS).

John serves the needs of a diverse group of clients, including people over the age of 50, young professional families, affluent high-net-worth individuals, and successful small business owners, among others. His clientele is primarily in the Carolinas and Virginia, but his practice is national in scope. He is active in the community and is the President of Triangle Business Professionals and an ambassador at the Durham Chamber of Commerce.

He has been teaching martial arts for over 20 years. John, his wife, Elaine, and children, Molly and Mack, live in Durham, North Carolina.
